How to Choose a Surveillance Camera Based on Field of View?

Relevant Parameters Affecting the Field of View of Surveillance Cameras

When selecting surveillance equipment, in addition to common parameters like pixels, protection level, and sensor size, the lens focal length (often referred to as the “millimeter” of the lens) is also a crucial parameter. The purpose of checking the focal length is to estimate the camera’s field of view to help initially determine if the camera and the scene are a good match.

Choosing lenses with different focal lengths will result in different field of views for the same scene. The shorter the focal length, the closer the visible distance and the larger the field of view (broader coverage). Conversely, the longer the focal length, the further the visible distance and the smaller the field of view (narrower coverage).
